What is the MBA?

The MBA (Midwest Badminton Association) is a regional organization.  We are non-profit and are Region 2 of USA Badminton.  The MBA is supported by due paying members and patrons.  We hold championship tournaments each season for all ages, juniors, and seniors.  The Board of Directors meets 3 times per year to discuss finances, junior funding, rankings, and other administrative functions of the organization. MBA Membership is separate from USAB membership.  If you have a membership card, that is most likely your USAB membership card - the MBA does not provide a membership card or number.

How do I find a place to play?

The easiest way to find a place to play is to look at the Where To Play page.  Clubs (both member clubs and non-member clubs) are listed by state.  Once you find one that is nearby, get in touch with the contact person to learn more.  If you cannot find a location near you, try looking at USA Badminton's website.  Other options: contact a local YMCA or recreation center, contact local colleges/high schools/middle schools, or do a search on the internet.

Can I play in a tournament?

Most of the tournaments listed on our site (Event Calendar page) are open to the public.  There may be eligibility rules, but if any apply, they will be listed on the information page for that tournament.  The most popular restraint is that you have to be a member of USA Badminton because they sanction the event.  Memberships are available at each tournament that has this restriction.  See individual tournament information pages for more information or visit USA Badminton's website.

When is the next tournament?

Tournaments are listed on the Event Calendar page.  We attempt to post the dates and contact information as soon as we are notified of a tournament.  We also try to post detailed  information and the entry form in a timely matter.

Do I have to be a member just to play?

MBA Membership is not necessary to play at all clubs or tournaments.  If the club is a member club, that means that the people who practice there pay dues.  Each club receives a copy of the MBA newsletter, The Flick.  Members of these clubs are also eligible to play in the regional championships.  Non-member clubs may or may not have dues.  Contact the club for more information.  MBA membership is not required to play in most tournaments (championships excluded), though USA Badminton membership may be required.  See individual tournament listings for eligibility requirements.

It's been awhile, what are the rules again?

USA Badminton and the MBA follow the rules stated by the BWF (Badminton World Federation).  The rules of badminton can be found on the BWF website.

Where can I get badminton supplies?

Badminton supplies are sold on a few online sites as well as at tournaments.  Check out our Links Page to see a list of online sites.  Also, Louisville Badminton Supply provides stringing services and supplies.

Can I try out for the Olympics?

No, you cannot just try out for the Olympics.  If you are seriously interested, you must participate in national tournaments as well as international ones.  You must earn ranking nationally as well as internationally.  For more information about the Olympic development activities of USA Badminton, visit their website.

The MBA is Region 2 of USA Badminton and includes the following states:
Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio, North Dakota, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin
